SYNOPSIS

The film tells the story of Jerzy, a writer whose creativity has burnt out, his wife and their seven-year-old son Jaƛiek living far away from the city. Jerzy’s enduring creative crisis and their related financial troubles affect the married couple’s drifting apart and the death of their feelings towards each other. One day they find out their son is ill and will have to travel to the city for an operation. For the boy this is but the long anticipated journey to visit a toy car shop, for the parents it is a time of anxiety and separation, which forces them to reflect anew on the essence of their relationship.

NOTES

In this film, I wanted to show a man in a state of crisis. He is a human being who has lost the two things he loved and believed in. He is a writer who loses his talent and a husband who loses the love of his wife. I was curious about the state of withdrawal, helplessness, feeling of shame and lack of belief that overwhelm my protagonist. I did not want to judge him but just observe what kind of a human being he is, how he tries to get through his situation in life and how that experience affects him.
It is a simple story. I tried therefore to find a simple and poetic way of story-telling. The film comprises few words and suggestive images whose transparency would speak directly to a viewer’s feelings, imagination and sensitivity. I didn’t want add something conclusive but just leave it open so that each viewer would have a chance to find their own, unique and emotional way to see my film.
