SYNOPSIS
The project of a journey of “relational cinema” through the old Egnatia road (natural continuation of the Appian Way in the Balkans) originates in 2004 in the artistic project of Osservatorio Nomade-Stalker “Egnatia a path of migrating memories” and then develops independently.
The journeys of the relational artist Matteo Fraterno and the director Davide Barletti (Fluid Video Crew) have been realised with the company of several artists and researchers of different nationalities such as: Mary Zygouri, Roberto Greco, Laurent Malone, Raffalella Aprile, Mihalis Kiriazis, Silvia Biagi, Giorgio D’Ambrosio, Simone e Nikola Uzuvnoski, Antongiulio Galeandro. The contemporary rivisitation of the layout of the ancient Roman road has generated a new kind of anthropological-geographical documentary, portraying, with an innovating point of view, the human and natural landscape in one of most tormented areas of Europe. The work has also been a tool for telling the difficult yet rich relations between East and West, to emphasise the cultural continuity that, in spite of the divisions created by national boundaries and ethnical, religious differences, connects the two parts of Europe.
The image of Egnatia that comes out of this work is that of a geographical sign linking the Otranto Channel to distant Istanbul and to a coarse metaphor that builds up future relations, starting from the loss of past identities to create new ones.
The material collected in the two years of research has allowed the publication of a ‘guide’ to the esthetic reading of the area of Egnatia by Matteo Fraterno and the coming release of the documentary film “Radio Egnatia” by Fluid Video Crew..
